Spontaneity in Speeches

Good evening,

I am working on a few videos and blogs based on a leadership seminar I recently took a part of. I have been very busy with work and school.

I am very excited to share the information I have learned with you.

Just a recap, I would like to focus on spontaneity in speeches. A lot of students provide excellent speeches with prior notice, but what if you are asked to give an improvised speech?

Well, first off you have to start with thanking theaudience and asking for a moment. This is for you to take a second to formulate the speech. You can say something along the lines that you want them to take the moment in or "remember the experience".

Usually they only want you to say a few words. So one to three minutes max. You can talk about how your experience has grown thanks to their guidance. Or your excitement for the future. Then wrap up with how you trust in their method and remind them that together we can achieve...

Now this was just a small snippet of what I am working on, soon I will provide more information on how to make you the best presenter at your company.

Until next time, remember we are the leader's of Tomorrow!

Ice Breaker

Welcome to my blog!

This blog will be dedicated to my personal life and be comprised of me following my dream. I plan on sharing my success and areas of growth with you.

My name is Zaida Macias! Zaida is an Arabic name which means the fortunate one. However I have been told it also means grandfather in some languages. Anywho, let me introduce myself. I am twenty one years old. I am a current communication studies major at Santa Ana College. This is my last semester before I transfer.

I currently work for the big mouse Mickey. He is a phenomenal mouse!

I am actively working on improving my lifestyle. I am intrigued by the superhero world but lately my heart is in discord because I find myself rooting for the villains, or in Deadpool's case, the anti-hero.

I began my career as a volunteer for a renown children's hospital for a little over a year. I then went on to learn a few more things as a nurse assistant. I currently am working on my communication skills at Disneyland. Working as a park greeter, I have really improved my public speaking, interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills. My job is to spiel and relay information to large crowds. My interpersonal skills as well as intercultural knowledge come into play when assisting individuals from different backgrounds. My organizational skills have strengthened since I must maintain a clean work environment while printing and issuing media tickets to guests. I have gained leadership skills through attaining radio responsibility.before it disrupts our efficiency. I am also in charge of assisting with maintaining the area safe for my colleagues and guests. I am to radio a supervisor to alert them of trouble or safety concerns

As a communications major I have learned how to further understand humans and interactions. I actually have been working on a few topics that I believe may assist others in their daily lives as well as at work. If you are interested feel free to check out my YouTube channel or my blog for the exuberant leaders of tomorrow:
here

Exuberance L.O.T: After the Interview Tips

Greetings fellow leaders!

Today we will speak about what to do after the interview. The topics I will cover are how to:
 • close the sale

 • thank you note

As an interviewee you must close the sale. You do so by knowing how to follow up. Do not be afraid to inquire your interviewer for a set time and day to follow up in case you do not hear from them. This way the interviewer will not be alarmed if you do callback. It will also lessen any apprehension you may feel, the interviewer in return will tell you if you are able to follow up or not. If the interviewer should allow you to reach out t them, make sure you know their preferred method of contact.

Ask Do not be afraid to speak up, ask the questions. For example, " Based on this interview did you feel like I could be successful in this position?"

This will make you a more interested and stronger candidate because you prepared ahead. Do not feel alarmed if you receive positive feedback yet you do not get the job. However do not lose your rigor if you receive negative feedback. You should instead, apply the constructive criticism for a future interview.

Before you leave make sure to ask for their business card. The business card will include their direct contact information.

Thank You Letter is very important. It seals the deal! You have a twenty-four hour time limit after the interview to send it. Popular methods include:
 • electronic mail (e-mail)

 • Hand written note

 • Phone Call
* Stray away from impersonal methods such as faxes, or prolonged methods such as snail mail

Gratitude is very important when participating in an interview, it shows your true character and work ethic. Sending out a thank you letter shows your ability to follow projects through. It also exemplifies your attention to detail. This will stay in mind when choosing a candidate, since it is how you will treat future clients and partners.

Thank you letters serve another purpose, they allow you to buffer the weaker moments in your interview. Let's say he or she asked you a question you did not quite understand, well now is the time to shine! Include it in your letter,
 • ex " I recall you asking me ___ and I ____. Well I remembered__".
Creative ways to garner attention is to include a link of your blog. Few candidates blog about their topic of interest at said company, or simply their area of work. This shows your creativity and innovative manner. It also displays your ability to market and distribute information. Blogging is a fast growing method used in corporate America, Public Relations and Marketing professionals among others will be pleased. Technology is a big part of success, show your versatility!

Here are two Interview Samples that me and my team, Leaders of Tomorrow did. The first is an example of a "bad" interview, while the second is an improved version. Comment your ideas on what went right and areas of improvement!

Farewell emerging leaders!

Marketing

A company once asked me to send them a video interview. This actually got me to the second interview at an internal communications position. Just an example of the ever changing new hire world.

Leadership Styles for Emerging Leaders

There are different leadership types and styles used in the modern day world. I believe they each serve their purpose in different scenarios and with different type of people. After all there is no one true way to lead.

I will leave the choosing up to your individual opinion.

The four types of leadership styles I will explain include: Autocratic, Democratic, Laissez-faire, and Bureaucratic.

Autocratic: Very direct form of Leadership. The leader's voice is the only voice.

Democratic: The leader informs and makes decisions based on group discussions.

Laissez-faire: There is no one leader. The leader kind of shies away from their responsibilities. Allows others to take over.

Bureaucratic: is very government like. The leader knows it all.

For a more detailed explanation...

There are individuals that believe Leaders are Born no made. According to the text (In mixed Company) this perspective is sometimes referred to as the "heroic model" of Leadership. In this approach, we take a closer look at traits. These traits are observed in leaders who wish to spread good will and even mall-will. There are physical traits:
 • Height
 • Weight
 • Physique
 • Beauty
 • Attractiveness
There are also Personality Traits:
 • Outgoing
 • Sociable
 • Introverted
 • Shy
Now, based on surveys people most likely look for the following traits in an effective leader:
 • Intelligence
 • Social and Verbal Skills
 • Integrity
 • Sense of Humor
 • Extroversion
 • Likeability
 • Confidence
 • Etc
Autocratic Leadership: exerts control over group members, they do not encourage member participation. These leaders are not interested in social hour. They are solely interested on the task at hand. This style is also known as the directive style, and is known for its high ask and low social way. Another way of looking at this is by the phrase: " my way or the highway".

Democratic Leadership: encourages participation and responsibility from group members. These leaders strive to improve the skills and abilities of their members. Everyone has a say in this style of leadership. The leader balances time for both social and task hour. This style is also known as the participative style.

Laissez-faire Leadership: is a do-nothing approach to leadership. There is an absence of any actual leadership here. The leader fears commitment to action, decisions, and manage to disappear when needed. According to the text Laissez-faire amounts to a sit-on-your-derriere style. Actually as far as defining leadership, this one may be a non-leadership.

Bureaucratic Leadership: Leaders focus on tradition regardless of their current functionality. They have always done it that way, they will always do it that way. They have an explicit hierarchy to follow. According to Business Dictionary, Bureaucratic leaders attempt to solve problems by adding layers of control, and their power comes from controlling the flow of information.

These are but a few examples of leadership styles. Feel free to decide which works best for your environment and group members. Comment if you have any more question or would like to know where I got my information. I may also be to provide more information as needed.

I will post my video on How to Become a Leader tomorrow! Keep an eye out for it on YouTube, I will also post the link here.
